Overcoming Art Blocks: 3 Tips to Reignite Your Creativity
Share
Hello dear creative friend!
If you’ve ever found yourself in an art block—feeling stuck, uninspired, or unsure where to go next—you’re not alone. Every artist experiences this at some point. The good news is there are ways to gently move through it and reconnect with your creative spark.
In my latest YouTube video, “Overcoming Art Blocks”, I share three simple tips that have helped me get back on track when creativity feels just out of reach. Let me walk you through them.
1. Revisit Old Work
One of the best ways to overcome a creative block is to reconnect with your past work. Take some time to revisit a piece you enjoyed making. Reflect on the process and the emotions you experienced while creating it. What did you want to express back then?
How does it make you feel now?
Sometimes, looking back at your own creative journey can remind you why you started in the first place. It’s a powerful way to rekindle that initial excitement and motivation.
2. See Art in Person
There’s something truly transformative about experiencing art in person. Unlike digital images, which engage only your eyes, seeing a piece up close activates multiple senses. You notice details—the texture of the paint, the energy of the brushstrokes—that simply don’t translate on a screen.
This experience brings you closer to the artist’s process and physical act of creation. It’s a wonderful way to inspire new ideas and get back in touch with the tactile joy of making art.
3. Engage with the Brotherhood of Artists
Robert Henri called this connection among creatives the Brotherhood of Artists—a beautiful phrase that captures the shared experience of creating and expressing what makes us human.
Being part of this creative community matters. Seek inspiration from others, connect with fellow artists, and remember that your art has meaning. Sometimes, simply enjoying and celebrating the work of others is enough to spark something new in your own process.
Let’s Keep in Touch!
I hope these tips offer some encouragement next time you find yourself feeling stuck. Art blocks are natural, but they’re also temporary. With a little reflection and a shift in perspective, you’ll be back to creating before you know it.
